LOCATION

The beautiful and tranquil island of Lesvos, lying off the coast of Turkey in the north Aegean, is the third largest of all Greek islands and off the beaten tourist track. In the South (unlike the North where the mass tourism packages are directed), it has remained totally unspoilt by mass tourism, focusing on ecotourism in the largely undiscovered countryside. It is the ideal destination for anyone wanting to experience authentic Greek island life.

The Southern triangle of Lesvos (between the Gulfs of Kalloni and Gera) is home to an unrivalled variety of landscapes with dramatic volcanic rocks formations, coastal scenery and lush green forests of pine trees and olive groves. It is home to a surprisingly large variety of flowers and exceptional birdlife, as it lies on a major migratory route. Tucked away in the southwest corner of Lesvos, overlooking the Aegean Sea, lies the pretty village of Vatera. Our holidays start here where we have excellent access to walks, whilst Vatera’s Blue Flag beach stretches for 10 km and is a relaxing rest stop at the end of our day walks.

WALKING PROGRAMME & DATES

OPTION ONE: One Centre Based Walking Holiday
Trips operate at anytime: in April, May, June, September, October & November subject to availability

From Vatera our walks follow ancient mule tracks through the southwest corner of the island to the pretty inland villages of Vrisa, Polichnitos and Lisvori. We ascend through olive groves and pine woods, where we have spectacular views back to Vatera, and cross a ridge before reaching the church of St. George, high up in the peaks. With the help of transport we explore further the area around the mountain traditional village of Agiasos and the Mount Olympus peaks. Added interests are the numerous archaeological sites dotted around the area, bird watching opportunities and thermal springs. Many of the walks pass or end at quiet beaches and coves where there are good opportunities for swimming.

OPTION TWO: Two Centre Based Walking Holiday
Trips operate at anytime: in May, June & September

The walking programme is evenly balanced between Vatera, Agiasos and the bustling seaport of Plomari, which is the capital of Ouzo – a visit to the Ouzo Museum, the only one of its kind in the whole world, is a must! All in all, the programme is a perfect combination of mountain and sea landscapes.

ACCOMMODATION

At Vatera the Madonna Studios Family Hotel is located in a scenic location with well-kept gardens and panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, just 3 min away from the beach at the most central point in the village and very close to amenities. The spacious apartments are comfortably furnished with en suite facilities, hairdryer, TV, hospitality tray, air-conditioning, central heating, and balconies with both sea and mountain views. This well-maintained family hotel has spacious back and front terraces and a bar where pre and post dinner drinks can be enjoyed watching the sunset. Breakfasts will be taken at the cosy breakfast room and evening meals at the local taverna close to the Hotel where a selection of traditional home-cooked dishes are on offer. Packed lunches can be provided.

At Plomari the Aegean Sun Hotel is located a stone’s throw away from the Agios Isidoros beach with panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, with pool. The rooms are comfortably furnished with en suite facilities, hairdryer, TV / Satellite TV, Direct Dial Telephone, Mini Bar, air-conditioning, and Sea-view balconies, Pool Bar. Meals can be taken at the hotel dinning room. Packed lunches can be provided.

We believe in being super flexible – hence we offer the two Walking Options in this enchanting island. However we are going to extend this even further, so you can choose further:
• “ Bed & Breakfast Option” and
• “Full board option”.

Based on your choices the price will be fixed accordingly on a per person basis on twin share or single use.
